Celebrity stamps

When it comes to collectibles, U.S. postage stamps have become a more common item to collect. Whether you are someone that likes dogs, cats, places, or people, the U.S. post office has done a great job in making celebrities the subjects of stamps. One particular family has been popular on the face of stamps and that is the Kennedy family. The first U.S. postage stamp of a Kennedy son featured John F. Kennedy. The rectangular stamp was issued the year after his assassination and had a square picture of him next to a square picture of a flame. Encircling both pictures were the words "and a glow from that fire can truly light the world." At the bottom of the stamp was "1917*John Fitzgerald Kennedy*1963." In 1964, this stamp was worth five cents. In 1979, a stamp of Robert Kennedy was issued, worth fifteen cents at that time.

In 2009, the U.S. postal service honored black and white television with stamps dedicated to our favorite TV shows. There were stamps of Lucy and Ethel from "I Love Lucy." There were also stamps of Groucho Marx from when he hosted "You Bet Your Life" and there was also a stamp of Joe Friday as Detective Jack Webb in "Dragnet." In the same year, another celebrity family was honored by being featured on a postage stamp. That family was the Simpson family. Each member - Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie - was featured on their own individual stamp with different solid backgrounds.
