A Postcard from Australia with Stamps

Anyone who collects old postcards should have cards from Australia in their collection. A fun postcard to start with might be a map of the country. Then you would know where the postcards that show the various harbors actually are on the continent. You can accent your collection by adding newer postcards of maps and the more recent sights such as the Sidney Opera House.

The other topic for old postcards, and new ones, too, is the Aborigines. There are cards that show their way of life or wonderful portraits, ranging from just a face to painted bodies. These postcards give a very clear view of the tribes living in Australia. You can add new postcards of Aborigines to the vintage cards if your collection is of native people.

Postcards never forget animal lovers. You can get the cuddly Koala, or a kangaroo, a wombat, and of course a kookaburra. Postcards of dogs are a common theme, as are sheep and sheep ranches.

If you prefer stamps to postcards, you can be sure to pick up stamps with the queen on them. If you want older stamps, you can get several different stamps with King George on them. Postage in any country celebrates its history, and the same is true of Australia. In 1978, they issued an Aviators stamp for the 50th anniversary of transpacific flights. In 2007, a SAS Special Gold Overprinted Sheetlet was issued honoring Australian soldiers.

Like postcards, postage stamps often depict common scenes or famous people. You can get Australian postage with kangaroos, space exploration, and stagecoaches. It doesn't matter if you collect stamps or postcards, Australia has something that will fit into your collection just perfectly.
