Roosevelt Stamps

When it comes to celebrities on postage stamps, the U.S. post office has done a pretty good job of covering all the realms of fame. They have put television shows on stamps, cartoons, actors, actresses, events, holidays, even cats and dogs. One of the more popular U.S. postage stamps to collect are those of U.S. presidents. One of the U.S. presidents that was represented on a postage stamp was President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The stamp of President Roosevelt was first offered in July, 1945. The stamp was part of a collection of four stamps that were issued as a tribute to the late President Roosevelt. Included in the collection was a one cent stamp, a two cent stamp, a three cent stamp and a five cent stamp. The stamps were all rectangular but were printed in different colors.

The one cent stamp was printed with green ink and featured an oval portrait of the President with the a background of Roosevelt's home at Hyde Park in New York. The two cent stamp was printed in red and featured the same oval portrait of the President with the background of Roosevelt's cottage at Warm Springs in Georgia. The three cent stamp was printed in purple, with the same oval portrait of the President in an oval with a south view of the White House in the background. Finally, the five cent stamp was printed in blue. It, like the others, has the same oval portrait of President Roosevelt. To the right of the portrait, instead of a landscape picture is a bunch of clouds with a globe with the words "Freedom of Speech and Religion, From Want and Fear."
