Grand Canyon Stamps and Postcards

National Parks of America are frequently visited by many tourists. The Grand Canyon is one of the most outstanding national parks that exist today. People seek out memorabilia of places that they visit including post cards and stamps. Individuals can find a large variety of choices due to the scenic beauty and vastness of the Grand Canyon.

From the 1930's, when the Grand Canyon was selected as a national park and a local souvenir shop was started, post cards have been available to the public. Vintage post cards are sought after by collectors. Many of the early post cards show scenes of each of the rims of the Grand Canyon. Some show people camping or in boats on the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon. Today the modern postcards feature various activities in the park, beautiful scenes from many places in the canyon, and a variety of flora and fauna found in the canyon. Postcards used to cost one penny to mail and were called penny postcards. Today it takes 27 cents to mail a postcard. Collectors can be discovered on the Internet at sites that blog, twitter, or give general information about the Grand Canyon.

Throughout its history, the Grand Canyon has been depicted on more stamps than any other national park. Scenes showing historical events, scenic canyons, famous explorers, and tourism in the Grand Canyon have been printed. One series was even printed by the United Nations which has a special post office and makes stamps that are very collectible. An organization called the Postal Union of America and Spain printed special stamps in 1990 depicting the Colorado River Expedition through the Grand Canyon.
