The latest issue of an English stamp is November 3, 2009. Each year they make a different Christmas stamp. This years stamps are of the nativity and are taken from the stained glass windows of some of the churches in the UK. Many of Britain's parish churches contain beautiful stained glass windows and they inspired this years Christmas stamps. Each issue of a stamp tells a story. This is a good way to learn about UK.
England issues stamps for various things such as Cricket matches. On May 15 a special stamp was issued commemorating a match between England and New Zealand. It is a very limited edition. There are to be 5 match day covers issued. They will all be about going to the cricket match.
The British Journey Series was started in 2003 with stamps of scenes from Scotland, Northern Ireland, some from Wales and the rest are beautiful photographs taken in England. Many photos were viewed before narrowing the choice down to only six. They are designed to capture what the country is. None of the photos have sky in them. They are strictly landscape. They were all taken with a long lens that focused on a specific part of the landscape. The photos are of many different scenes from lonely landscapes to busy cities and buildings. Some are of the coastline with the waves lapping up on the shore. Most have captured the green of the grass, trees and shrubs of England.
