Animal stamps are a favorite with people the world over, but especially for children. The US Post Office has even issued a commemorative pane of stamps from favorite children's books. The stamps include Curious George, Fox in Socks, The Hungry Caterpillar, Olivia and several more. These books have been favorites of children for generations and all have a lesson to teach. The stamps will be available at Post Offices on Jan. 11, 2010. For stamp collectors you have 60 days to get the first day of issue by mail.
Animals have become a favorite with the post office. With so many people collecting stamps, they are always on the lookout for a new type of animal stamp that the collectors will be interested in getting the entire set. Some sets are small with only a few stamps, but others are large and contain many different animals. There are sets for wild animals, sets for strange looking animals, and sets for household pets. There are sets of famous story book animals. There are even stamps of the wolf in "Little Red Riding Hood."
Some companies have made a business out of producing stamps of various animals. At one company you can order only stamps for the breed of dog that is your favorite. They also have cats, even the wild ones like tigers and panthers. For the horse lover, there are many pictures of horses and famous horse races. When the post office puts out the stamps, they are definitely collectors items and the serious stamp collector watches for new issues like a hawk.
