Several commemorative postage stamps were issued in 1930. These stamps were sold to the public for two cents each. An air mail stamp, which sold for five cents, was issued in February of 1930. This was the Winged Globe stamp and was so popular that it was issued for all air mail stamps for the next five years. This same design was again reproduced as late as 1939. Other commemorative stamps issued at that time included the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in honor of the 1630 pilgrimage that landed at Salem. The Charleston, Carolina stamp marked the 250th anniversary of Charleston. The 200th birthday of Major General von Steuben was honored by having a stamp with his profile issued on September 17, 1930. This gentleman was honored as being a great contributor to the American cause during the Revolutionary War.
So many commemorative stamps were issued in 1940 that it would take several pages just to list them. A National Defense stamp was reissued regularly throughout the early 40s in hopes that it would stir sympathy for the war which was threatening our country and our allies' countries. These stamps had pictures of the Statue of Liberty and Liberty's Torch, along with others with the Arny and Navy written above weaponry.
There were stamps that were issued as Electric Eye Plate Stamps. One of these was honoring the 50th anniversary of Wyoming Statehood. Another stamp marked the 75th Anniversary of the 13th Amendment. An Idaho Statehood stamp was issued for their 50th Anniversary and the 80th Anniversary of the Pony Express was issued in April of 1940.
